About Me:
Heather Blakey, who is passionate about education, is at the forefront of Education in Victoria, delivering the concept of team blogging to the educational sector, under the direction of the Victorian Education Department and SLAV (State Library Association of Victoria). Heather says that teaching is her life and believes that it is essential to keep abreast of current communication trends within the digital landscape. Heather is now using programs like Blogger, WordPress and Squidoo to provide online mentoring, build niche communities and provide support for people from all walks of life.
Heather's most recent project is the development of a magical, technological garden. The ”Magic Garden” and “Places of the Heart” are Wild Garden, WEB 2.0 projects that have been designed to show educators and their students how good curriculum can be delivered and the outcomes published, using new technology such as blogs, writeboard, photo board and many other exciting applications. When she is not working at Soul Food, trekking Lemuria or Wild Gardening, Heather Blakey builds virtual communities. She is currently working with the Victorian Education Channel, building a virtual community for teachers using state-of-the-art, internet based publishing tools.
Heather is best known, in cyber space, for here work on the Soul Food Cafe and her endeavour to populate Lemuria with artists and writers who want to live and work harmoniously and help weave it into being.
Soul Food offers residencies at Riversleigh Virtual Manor where artists and writers gather in an online setting, and work through activities and projects generated by the latest Soul Food AdventURE Calendar. One theme is “The Grand Tour” made famous in the 18th century for European travel that incorporated art and culture to enrich personal taste and insight. The emphasis of the calendar is to enable a Grand Tour of Lemuria. It is laid out as a twenty five week course and stimulates creative and spiritual growth.
Those who access the constellation of blogs that form Lemuria are “aware of the truth that beyond the divisiveness among men and women there exists a primordial unitive power that comes from what we have in common” - our humanity! Those who dwell in Lemuria know that “the centrifugal force which has scattered and atomized mankind must be replaced by an integrating structure and process capable of bestowing meaning and purpose on existence”
Heather has also become passionate about building a Temple of Solace to help raise awareness of the little ways we can support one another as we each face life's brick bats. If you would like to work as a team to promote Solace do make sure to contact Heather at heaherblakey at dailywriting dot net.
